Veolia EDI Technology - Advanced Electrodeionization for High-Purity Water
Veolia MK-5 EDI Module (Previously E-CELL-3X) For Semiconductor Industries 0

Veolia's E-Cell ® EDI (Electrodeionization) technology represents the gold standard in continuous demineralization, offering a chemical-free, high-efficiency alternative to traditional mixed-bed ion exchange. Designed for industries requiring ultra-pure water, Veolia EDI stacks combine ion-exchange resins and selective membranes with direct current to remove contaminants—including silica and boron—without regeneration chemicals.

Key Advantages:
  • Zero Chemical Regeneration - Eliminates acid/caustic handling, reducing operational costs and safety risks.
  • Consistent High Purity - Produces water with > 16 MΩ*cm resistivity and < 5 ppb silica, meeting stringent standards for semiconductor, pharmaceutical, and power industries.
  • Energy-Efficient Design - Patented resin configuration and counter-current operation minimize power consumption and scaling risks.
  • Modular & Scalable - Available in MK-3, MK-5, and MK-9 stacks, supporting flows from 1.6 to 10 m³/h with up to 97% recovery.
  • Validated Reliability - CE, FDA, and Halal certified, manufactured in ISO 9001/14001 facilities with 85 °C hot-water sanitization options (PharmHT series).
Global Applications:
  • Microelectronics: Ultrapure rinse water for semiconductor fabrication.
  • Pharmaceutical: USP/EP-compliant purified water.
  • Power Generation: High-purity boiler feedwater.
  • Industrial Processes: Steel, chemical, and LNG plant demineralization.

Backed by Veolia's performance guarantees and global technical support, E-Cell EDI delivers sustainable, low-maintenance pure water solutions.

Note 4: Refer to Winflows Prediction Software and the E-Cell Stack Operating Manual to verify feedwater specifications at design conditions.
Note 5: TEA (ppm as CaCO3) - Total Exchangeable Anions, this represents the concentration of all anions in the feedwater, including contributions from OH-, CO2 and SiO2. Winflows must be used to confirm that the feedwater TEA is acceptable at the given application operating conditions. Tabulated values are given at minimum flow and maximum temperature.
Note 6: The 1.0 ppm feedwater hardness limit as CaCO3 is for standard countercurrent operation only. Under co-current operation, the allowable feed water hardness is reduced to 0.1 ppm as CaCO3.
Note 7: At rates above nominal flow, the allowable silica limit is reduced. When feed water hardness exceeds 0.5 ppm as CaCO3, the allowable silica limit is reduced to 0.5 ppm.
Note 8: When a silica guarantee requirement exists or a resistivity guarantee requirement is above 10 MOhm-cm, the boron feed level is limited to 0.3 ppm as B, as higher boron levels may affect performance. In the absence of these requirements, the limit is 1.0 ppm boron.
Note 9: Reverse Osmosis (RO) or Equivalent Feed Water: RO provides feed water to the EDI that is essentially free of particulate matter, colloidal materials, and high molecular weight organic matter that could foul the ion exchange media. Because the EDI stack contains packed beds of ion exchange media that cannot be backwashed/fluidized to remove particulate matter, the quality of the RO permeate needs to be specified. Systems with an open system between the RO system (or other source) and the E-Cell (e.g., storage tank, decarbonator) must have a filter installed immediately before the E-Cell to protect the E-Cell from contamination by particulate matter. Generally, a 5µm absolute filter or 1µm nominal filter is acceptable.
Note 10: APHA - Color standard/scale named after the American Public Health Association and defined by ASTM.
